Stringing together a balanced team effort with contributions up and down the lineup, the Serra Cavaliers, maintaining a decent 5-0 advantage after six innings, were far from done, manufacturing an additional five run insurance buffer in the top of the seventh en route to routing Diamond Bar 10-2 and earning a business trip to Dodger Stadium this Friday afternoon for the CIFSS division III championship.

The Dorsey High School varsity baseball team can now declare themselves as back-to-back Coliseum League champions.

This time around though, the pennant is all to themselves, as the Dons overcame a rusty start and busted loose with a big 6-run fifth inning en route to a 10-0 shutout of Fremont, which shared the title with them last year, and has yet to notch its first win of the season.

Burroughs loaded the bases on Hoppy once, and drew leadoff walks in consecutive innings prior. But as it all unfolded in front of everyone attending the game at Arcadia High School's Giambrone Field today in a monster Pacific league showdown between the host Apaches and guest John Burroughs Indians from Burbank, the southpaw reliever Jonathan Hopkins, popularly known as "Hoppy" to the Apache faithful en masse, overcame all the pressure to deal four no-hit shutout innings and earn the win in relief.

Flashback: A Typical Spring Tuesday Afternoon

On a typical Spring Tuesday, as a high school student-athlete, what is your day like?

It’s a typical Spring Tuesday as a high school student-athlete in California and the sun shines bright in the early afternoon now that the clocks have changed.

It’s baseball season. This means time to grab the various left-handed mitts I’ve accumulated over the years from the closet under the stairs of my family’s apartment and get ready to steal some bases. On any given day, that closet was home to shoulder pads, helmets, bats, cleats of all sorts, and whatever else made the journey from home to home over the years.
