La Costa Canyon vs. Lincoln (47-43) - The Mavericks outlasted Lincoln High School to win the Division II CIF Southern Regional Basketball Finals. La Costa advances to Sacramento for the CIF State Basketball Championship on 3/24. Tyrell Robinson (Lincoln HS) led all scorers with 20 points, and finished with 6 rebounds. Erick Magnuson finished with 11 pts and six boards for the Mavericks, while Matt Shrigley had 9 points.

Former Red Storm standout Donovan Plunkett just returned from playing hoops in France with CrossOver Elite and looks to play internationally in the 2012-2013 season. Plunkett led Dixie State College to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen in 2011. He scored 12 points in loss vs. BYU-Hawaii in 2011 Divsion II NCAA Tournament, and was selected First Team All-Conference Pacific West as a senior. Read More.

After a see-saw first half with numerous lead changes, the Monarchs went to the half clinging to a 30-29 lead.

It was a raucous night at Mater Dei High School Tuesday as the Mater Dei Monarchs defeated the Loyola Cubs 75-63 to advance to the CIF Semifinals against Bullard (Fresno) on Saturday. The game got off to a frenetic pace with both teams pushing the ball up and down the floor.

Tomorrow's matchup up featuring Nationally-ranked Mater Dei High School and the Loyola Cubs has to be the most exciting matchup of the 2012 CIF State Hoops Tournament up to this point. After the Monarchs' victory over Loyola in the CIF Southern Section Semis, super sophomore Stanley Johnson told College Level Athletes, "We hadn't played them this year, and it's the first team in California that's really been fast, and been able to run with us... and use their athletic ability just as good as us."
