One of the biggest surprises this season for the USC Trojans has been the emergence of the newcomers along the defensive line. Both Morgan Breslin and Leonard Williams have stepped up into huge roles to provide a great pass rush. With the recruiting class currently full of verbal commits, five along the defensive line, the future looks bright with the front four.

1. Geno Smith QB West Virginia

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith led the Mountaineers to a thrilling 48-45 road victory over Texas last week. Smith had four touchdowns, increasing his season total to 24 with no interceptions.

The Heisman favorite has nearly 2,000 passing yards and is completing over 81 percent of his passes. West Virginia is undefeated and ranked in the top 5 and Smith is the main reason why. With big games against Kansas State and Oklahoma remaining on the schedule, Smith will have an opportunity to validate his Heisman candidacy.

In front of a raucous crowd on homecoming night, the Crespi Celts defeated the Loyola Cubs 20-7 thanks to a stellar defensive performance to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The undefeated Celts jumped out to an early 10-0 advantage in the first quarter. The Cubs answered with a touchdown of their own and trailed 10-7 at halftime.

Turnovers played a pivotal role in the second half as the Crespi defense put forth an impressive effort and forced Loyola into several costly mistakes.

Watch Davond Dade scoop this blocked punt by Crespi DE #3 Raymond Davison and take it to the house against previously undefeated Loyola. Crespi beat Loyola 20-7 and remains undefeated.

Dade's TD broke open a close game that featured multiple turnovers by both squads. The Crespi defense was stout for most of the night and forced several Loyola turnovers that resulted in excellent field position throughout the evening. The Crespi crowd was fired up for their homecoming game against Loyola and came out victorious to remain undefeated.

CLA Sports talked to Adoree' Jackson at Serra High School this afternoon about tonight's matchup against a tough Chaminade team. The top 2014 DB recruit also talked about what schools have shown interest and about the USC football gloves he wore vs. Narbonne two weeks ago.

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is the clear front runner for the Heisman trophy after a ridiculous 656 yard, eight touchdown performance against Baylor. The undefeated Mountaineers first Big 12 game set quite a standard for offensive excellence. For the season, Smith has 20 touchdowns with no interceptions and an 83 percent completion percentage.

Narbonne continued to prove why they're worthy of such a high national ranking (5), and defeated the Mater Dei Monarchs 18-17 in a hard-fought battle in Harbor City on Friday night.

The Gauchos were stopped cold after taking the opening kickoff when Washington Huskies 2013 quarterback commit Troy Williams watched a pass skip off his receiver's hands for a Mater Dei interception.

The Monarchs got on the scoreboard first with a 38 yard field goal after taking over in Gauchos' territory.

The clear cut game of the week in Southern California high school football features the undefeated Narbonne Gauchos against the undefeated Mater Dei Monarchs. The host Gauchos are fresh off a big victory at Serra last week.

Washington bound senior quarterback Troy Williams will be difficult for the Monarchs to contain. The stout Narbonne defense yielded their first touchdown last week and should be tested by the Mater Dei offense. The experienced Narbonne defense forced Serra into four turnovers and will be primed to shut down the Monarchs.

While Matt Barkley and the USC Trojans work on getting back into the race for the championship, the future Trojan from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington is showing why he is rated as high as he is.

In four games so far, Max Browne has completed 84 of 119 (71%) passes for 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Just as important, his Spartans are a perfect 4-0.
