Southern California high school basketball fans are in for a treat Saturday with the Pioneer Hoops Showdown being held at Providence and Bell-Jefferson High Schools in Burbank. The basketball showcase was organized by Providence basketball coach Ernest Baskerville and features several talented ballers from around the state.
There will be six games played at each location. Opening games tip-off at 10am and the nightcaps are expected to tip at 830pm.
"We're playing Notre Dame, and then we have Serra playing Cantwell. Then some of the other match-ups are just good match-ups. Leuzinger is good team, and Oak Park is really good so we got them matched up together. We really try to put together a good product for the fans," said Head Coach Baskerville.
The lone out of state participant is Traders Point Christian Academy from Indiana, who will face off against Sylmar at 1130 am at Providence High. "They were looking for a game last year when we had out event, but we were full, so I helped them find another game out here in LA. I stayed in contact with the athletic director and got them to come out here," Baskerville told CLA Sports.
Sophomore sensation Marcus LoVett and the host Providence Pioneers take on Notre Dame at 7pm.
