Today has been a day to remember for 2015 DL Rasheem Green from Serra HS (CA). Prior to the Los Angeles NFTC, Green wasn't well recognized as a top prospect. That changed shortly after the NFTC when Green picked up his first offer from UCLA.
CLA spoke with Rasheem today and he was beyond excited about the new offers.
"I got the offer from SC first. Coaches Tee Martin and Coach O were at school today. I met Coach O first and they said that they had offered. I was very happy, I was surprised though. I didn't expect today to be this exciting," Green told CLA Sports.
Green said he received congratulations from fellow teammates and coaches in regards to the news.
Believe it or not, Rasheem admits that football wasn't something he was drawn to growing up. "As a kid, I didn't really like football. I didn't play it," he said. Things are much different nowadays. At 6'5" 270, Green is one of the West Coast's top 2015 defensive lineman.
"It means a lot," he said when asked about the offer from the Trojans. "USC is a good school." Green also admits that he's not the only one excited, and says his family is ecstatic about the offer. "They'd like me to be close to home," he says.
The Pac-12 was well represented on the Serra High School campus Tuesday, and Cal Bears running backs Coach Pierre Ingram extended an offer to Green. "I talked to Coach Ingram. He said the coaches would like to have me on campus soon," said Green.
Green plans to take the SAT at the start of his junior year and says that he'll be taking classes to prepare.
He also has a few visits the he'll schedule in the news few months. "I think I'll take some visits at the end of summer. I plan on going to visit the Bruins, USC and Cal, because they're all pretty close," he told CLA.
The Florida Gators were another school to offer the sophomore today. "I was on the phone with Coach (Brian) White. He said they're going to come on Monday to talk to me and John (Houston)," said Green.
Serra's rising 2015 defensive lineman also picked up an offer from the Washington Huskies, who spoke to him by phone this afternoon.
The Cavaliers return in 2013 as reigning CIF State Champions and Green is only focused on getting better. "My goals for myself are to get at least more than 15 sacks this season. Team goals are to not give up more than 5 first downs in the first half as a defense," he says.
Coach Perez from Serra warned us that Rasheem Green was going to be the next big recruit. The college football world has now taken notice.
