JSerra Catholic Improves to 4-0

The JSerra Catholic Lions topped the St. Bonaventure Seraphs 42-28 in front of a raucous crowd Friday night at Saddleback College. With the victory, the Lions improve to 4-0 on the season.

St. Bonaventure jumped out to the early 7-0 lead. USC commit Ricky Town linked up with speedster Lavan Alston on a long touchdown strike.

JSerra responded immediately with an explosive 72-yard touchdown burst by Edward "EJ" Vander to tie the game 7-7 in the first quarter.

After the Seraphs missed a short field goal attempt, the Lions seized control of the game. Senior Aaron Matthews rushed for the go-ahead touchdown and JSerra never looked back from there.

Quarterback Nick Robinson connected with Vander on a wheel route to extend the Lions advantage to 21-7 at halftime.

The Lions added to their lead in the second half with a touchdown strike from Robinson to Ethan Aguayo.

Trailing 28-7, the Seraphs marched down the field. Chris Santoyo capped off the drive with a short touchdown run to cut the deficit.

On the ensuing kickoff, Aguayo exploded up the right sideline all the way to the house to give JSerra the 35-14 lead. Robinson displayed his dual threat ability, rushing for a touchdown and a commanding 42-14 advantage.

The Lions defense pressured Town all night, racking up several sacks. The defense was led by strong performances from D.J. Bailey, Mitchell Deamon and Aaron Matthews.

St. Bonaventure cut into the deficit on an 80-yard touchdown run by Santoyo. A late touchdown pass from Town to Darius Vines made the final score 42-28.

The Seraphs will look to bounce back next week when they host Upland at Ventura College. Both teams will head into the contest 2-2. JSerra will host St. Paul next week in their final game before the start of Trinity league play.
