Joe Mixon exploded last week for 6 total touchdowns against Castro Valley. The senior running back catapulted himself into the national recruiting conversation earlier this year and hasn't looked back since. After excellent performances at the U.S. Army All-American junior combine in San Antonio, TX, along with the spring 7on7 circuit and The Opening in Oregon, Mixon is arguably the top back in the country.
After Freedom's victory last week, Mixon traveled to Seattle for his second official visit at the University of Washington. This weekend the 2014 U.S. Army All-American selection will be in Norman, Oklahoma for an official visit to watch the Sooners against TCU.
"It was cool (Washington). We went to the game, I just chilled with the players in the dorms," he told CLA this afternoon.
One big draw for recruits this year at Washington are the new renovations to the stadium. Mixon was clearly impressed and mentioned that UW facilities even feature their own barber shop for student-athletes.
I asked Joe about the weather in Seattle and although he said it was "windy and rainy," the weather shouldn't factor into his college decision.
Joe Mixon Scores 6 TDS vs Castro Valley
This week the Freedom Falcons have a bye and Mixon will hit the road for his third official visit. Joe will be in Norman, OK this weekend, and he'll be accompanied by a few of the nation's other top 2014 recruits.
"I get out there on Friday. I got Adoree' (Jackson) and Dwight (Williams) to go too. Adoree' asked me if I was going to Oklahoma this weekend. About 20 minutes later he booked it. I tweeted it and then Dwight hit me up about an hour later and asked me if I was going… and he ended up booking it," Mixon said.
In addition, 2014 WR commit Dallis Todd will be in attendance.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl announced via Twitter today that Minnesota Vikings RB and former Army Bowl participant Adrian Peterson will also be in Norman this weekend as his team has a bye week.

Joe Mixon undoubtedly idolizes Peterson and is excited about the possibility of being formally introduced to the NFL superstar.
"I'd ask him (Peterson) how he prepares himself mentally and physically… and how I can get to his level at the point of attack and have his attitude," said Mixon.
One more school on the list for Mixon may be the Oregon Ducks. Mixon said that if Oregon is taking any more RB visits this year then he may choose Eugene over a potential visit to the Florida Gators.
Mixon also said that he hasn't heard from the USC Trojans since the firing of Head Coach Lane Kiffin.
Freedom HS officially starts league after the bye week and Joe Mixon looks to right the ship. Check back with CLA for more updates from the nation's top recruits and other up and coming prospects.
