The fifth game on the slate at the Pioneer Hoops Showdown at Providence High features two quality teams in the Oak Park Eagles and the Leuzinger Olympians.
In what turned to be the best game of the day so far, Leuzinger hung on for a 65-64 victory over Oak Park.
The game featured a sweet matchup of guards. Oak Park guard Ron Lee Jr. and Leuzinger guard Eric Childress both played phenomenal basketball to lead their teams.
Lee Jr. led all scorers with 28 points while Childress scored 21 points and dished out 11 assists.
Leuzinger led for most of the contest, including a 32-28 halftime advantage. The Olympians extended their lead in the third quarter and held a 55-46 advantage heading into the fourth.
Oak Park, led by Lee Jr., stormed back and tied the game. In the final moments, it was Leuzinger that made more plays to pull out a hard fought 65-64 victory.
For their efforts, Eric Childress was named Gatorade Player of the Game and despite falling short, Ron Lee Jr. took home CLA Player of the Game honors.
Game 6: Gardena Serra vs. Cantwell-Sacred Heart
The sixth game of the night pits the Gardena Serra Cavaliers and the Cantwell-Sacred Heart Cardinals.
Serra jumped out to an early lead and held an 18-9 lead after the first quarter.
Cantwell-Sacred responded with a run of their own to cut the deficit thanks to a solid 12 points from Jose Estrada, a member of the Mexican National team.
Chris Sandifer leads Serra with 12 first half points. Serra holds a slim 28-25 lead at halftime.
Both teams picked up right where they left off to start the second half, exchanging early baskets.
The game came down to the wire but Serra proved too strong and pulled out a 50-46 victory.
Jose Estrada was awarded CLA Player of the Game for Cantwell-Sacred Heart and Gatorade Player of the Game went to Emmanuel Ndumanya.
