Coach Coco's Blog: Reflecting

As I reflect back to the last 8 months I truly recognize the community that surrounds me. As we enter the season I can truly say that I am so fired up about the 2012 season, I can hardly wait to go out and enjoy some high school football. These past few months have given me the opportunity to work with some of the finest student-athletes and coaches in the CIF Southern and LA City sections.

Coaching the “IE Elite” 7on7 team, along with being the Los Angeles Watts Summer Games 2012 Football chair, I’ve come to really get to know all the guys and come to build some lasting relationships with many in the community. So today, along with CLA, I want to send some shout outs to those entering the 2012 season.

To all the parents, family members and friends of these student-athletes we really like to thank you for the encouragement and support you showed during the offseason. Your commitment to the student athletes and program is what really keeps the engine going, your encouragement and presence is priceless and the passion that you have for the game is what brings it all together. So we thank you and encourage you to continue to create the optimal student athlete in the classroom and on the grid.

All coaches who participated in the Los Angeles Watts Summer Games 2012, I want to wish you all a very successful season. I’m really looking forward to the growth of the LAWSG in 2013. With all of you involved, once again we will continue to grow and create the best venue and atmosphere for our student-athletes. All players of the LA Watts Games remember to always win with integrity and lose with dignity, and above all, pursue the game with respect.

To all players… play every play as if it’s the last you’ll ever play. Create a goal and enjoy the steps that will get you there. To all the IE Elite players, good luck this season and remember it’s not about hanging out, it’s about getting out. Super shouts out to Rancho Cucamonga’s LB’s AJ and Ami Latu , Roosevelt’s Dearmie Street, La Sierra’s Acquarey Eddington, Johnny Salazar, Upland’s Kendal Dukes, JoJo Mathis, Delvin Batiste, Alex Olivas, Damien’s Josh Savage, Cage Pucci, Chino Hills Jack Austin and Long Beach Poly’s seniors Jayon Brown and Thomas Tucker. So as all involved embark into the season of 2012, I encourage you to do so in a manner that only you can give. “Remember that the only person you should ever compete with is yourself. You couldn’t ask for a more fair match.” Stay focused and remember to enjoy all your steps to success. Stay low and go fast.

Yours in Football and Health.
