In the Baseline League opener, the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars defeated the Etiwanda Eagles 37-18 on a frigid Thursday night at Los Osos High. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 6-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cougars jumped out to the lead on a short touchdown run on 4th down by bulldozing back Kiraun Mayo. The PAT was blocked.
Trailing 6-0, Etiwanda senior quarterback Darryn Ratliff linked up with senior Tacory Spencer on a long catch and run for the equalizing score. The PAT was blocked.
Thanks to Jeffrey Coprich and the Inner City Youth Foundation, the best local student athletes were celebrated on an Evening of Champions at the Inaugural Unsung Heroes Awards Ceremony at Celebrity Centre in Hollywood Sunday night.
CLA was honored to attend such a glorious event that featured several performers, including the LA City Inner CIty Mass Choir. Athletes were recognized for their success on the field, in the classroom and within the community.

Another year, another disappointing loss to the Stanford Cardinal football team for the Men of Troy. Unfortunately, the USC Trojans walked out with a loss last Saturday that dropped the potential title contenders down the ranks. It was a tough loss that left heartbreak in everyone from the fans to the coaches to the players.
As I reflect back to the last 8 months I truly recognize the community that surrounds me. As we enter the season I can truly say that I am so fired up about the 2012 season, I can hardly wait to go out and enjoy some high school football. These past few months have given me the opportunity to work with some of the finest student-athletes and coaches in the CIF Southern and LA City sections.
Chris Hawkins is the truth. If you don't believe it, you can watch him lockdown receivers and breakup passes with his thumb in a cast. Better yet, take a close look at Hawkins as he explodes through his hips, in and out of a smooth backpedal. The 2013 USC commit is just as advertised.
A few of the most physically impressive HS football recruits at the 2012 B2G Sports Elite Camp were Tustin top 2013 linebacker prospect Edward Tandy and Redlands HS running back Craig Lee. Tandy holds an offer from Cal Berkeley, while Lee is one of the nation's top running back recruits.

Along with top offensive lineman recruit Emerald Faletuipapai of Gardena Serra, there were a number of big time prospects including Concord De La Salle linebacker Michael Hutchings, Upland defensive end Joe Mathis, Mission Viejo safety Max Redfield and Rancho Cucamonga safety Tahaan Goodman.
