After watching Artavis Scott play at the IMG 7v7 National Championship it was a given that he was one of the most gifted players on the field.
The 2014 WR flew out to the West Coast shortly after Team Tampa claimed victory and took home rings from the IMG tourney. The Opening hosted at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon was the next top for Artavis Scott.
As one of the top recruits to announce his verbal commitment on national television, Scott was able to share his experience at The Opening with his friends and family back in Florida.
IMG 7v7 National Championship Highlights
Speedster Artavis Scott chose Clemson and is solid in his pledge to the Tigers.
"It was pretty cool. I had a lot of people watch it from around the area. I wanted everybody who's been watching me since I started have a chance to see me commit," Scott told CLA.
In Oregon, Scott performed well in the SPARQ testing, but it's a whole different ball game when a player is in a game-like scenario. Traditionally, we don't like to rely solely on measurables to analyze a recruit.
"At The Opening, there was a lot of good talent. I think Florida compares just as well, if not better. The rankings are just opinions. I wish I would have never been ranked. Just be a quiet kid and show up. You ain't gonna be ranked forever," said Scott.
Speaking of rankings, one of the top ranked 2015 wide receivers to recently commit is a close friend and teammate of Artavis Scott at East Lake HS in Tampa, FL.
2015 WR George Campbell committed to Michigan this week and I asked Artavis to share his thoughts about the verbal.
"I'm proud of him. He deserved it. I know he's gonna get off regardless. If he feels happy about it, that's good. It's a good fit for him," said Scott.
On another note, the future Clemson Tigers wideout would have loved to have his teammate by his side at the next level.
"I'd love to play with him. That's like my brother," Scott told CLA.
Scott and Campbell will get to play together for one more season before the two part ways. CLA was fortunate enough to watch the dynamic duo take home the IMG 7v7 National Championship in Florida last month, and if that's any indication of what the regular season will be like, we might be taking another trip down South.
This year East Lake has a few tough games with Largo and Countryside. The Eagles look to avenge a 40-10 loss against Largo and make it back to the playoffs where they lost in the third round last season.
