The San Fernando Tigers defeated the Canoga Park Hunters 42-35 to claim the Division II LA City Section Championship Saturday afternoon at East LA College.
The game featured a rematch of Valley Mission League foes. Much like their first meeting, San Fernando pulled out a victory in a high scoring slug fest.
San Fernando, behind the stellar play of junior quarterback Cris Solano and Inglewood transfer, receiver Charles Bell, took a seemingly insurmountable 42-14 in the second half.
But Canoga Park refused to go down without a fight and mounted a serious rally thanks to the leadership and play of seniors Anthony Rios-Carlsen and Kyhree Morgan.
The Hunters scored 21 straight points to cut the deficit to 42-35 but were unable to complete the improbable comeback.
It was an exciting game filled with big pass plays from both squads but in the end the Tigers were victorious.
