Westlake Wins 44-17 over Canyon Behind QB Malik Henry

Henry Tosses 3 TDS, Westlake Wins

The Westlake Warriors avenged last season's defeat to the Canyon Cowboys with a dominating 44-17 victory on the road last week.

Class of 2016 gun-slinger Malik Henry proved why he's so coveted by several big time college programs. Henry sprayed the ball around to his bevy of weapons and picked apart the Canyon defense.

The Warriors first touchdown was set up by a sweet punt return fromTanner Gee. Bruising back Reno Dubreuil rumbled for the score and a 7-0 lead.

The talented Westlake arsenal includes Theo Howard and Jesse Cuccia, who both proved too much for the Canyon secondary to contain. Howard hauled in two touchdowns on the night. Receivers Ronald Smith, Shane Ho and Vincent Corso provided solid targets for Henry as well.

Warriors running back Chase Jasmin exploded for a 75-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 24-3 in the second quarter.

Cuccia broke the game open with a long touchdown catch and run up the left sideline to give the Warriors a commanding 30-3 advantage.

The Westlake defense played great. Quincy Bennett and Jalyn Harrison had interceptions that led to touchdowns and the Canyon offense struggled to find a rhythm all night.

Westlake hits the road this week for a game in Arizona against Red Mountain September 5 while Canyon will look to bounce back with a victory at Thousand Oaks.
