The West squad defeated the East 28-6 at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game at the Alamodome in San Antonio Saturday afternoon.
The annual matchup featured the top prep football players in the country. Many of the participants have already committed to college programs but some announced their intentions live on NBC during the game.
Oregon commit Royce Freeman led the way with three touchdowns for the West. On defense, the West squad put forth a dominating performance at every level. With their head coach Jason Negro on the sidelines, St. John Bosco teammates Jaleel Wadood and Naijiel Hale locked down the secondary with Oregon commit Budda Baker while the big boys up front applied constant pressure on the East signal callers.
Joe Mixon: Army All-American Bowl MVP
Highly coveted superstar Freedom running back Joe Mixon announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners. Mixon also scored a touchdown and took home MVP honors. Baylor commit K.D. Cannon showed why he's considered one of the top WR recruits in the nation.
Standout Gardena Serra linebacker Dwight Williams will be staying close to home, declaring his commitment to the UCLA Bruins. Cross-town rival USC received a big commitment from St. Bonaventure tight end Bryce Dixon.
With the victory, the West evens the all-time series at 7 wins apiece. Neither the West or East has won consecutive Army Bowl games since 2009. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school bowl game in the nation. CLA was honored to attend and looks forward to next year.
