Several outstanding student athletes were honored Saturday night at the MLK Unsung Heroes Awards Ceremony at the Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. The annual event was presented by the Inner CIty Youth Foundation and featured musical performances by the LA Inner City Mass Choir and a call to action from guest speaker Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
The purpose of the evening was to recognize and celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of the many deserving guests of honor. The student athletes honored represent the best and brightest of the new generation and are destined for greatness. Their success was shared by their family and friends.

Honorees included St. John Bosco's Jaleel Wadood, Gardena Serra's Dwight Williams, Oaks Christian's Brandon Dawkins, Inglewood's Zaire Andre, Calabasas' Anthony Wright Jr, Dorsey's David Williams, Vista Murrieta's Greg Hoyd, Crenshaw's Ajene Harris, Compton Centennial's Denzel Fisher and many more.

The capacity crowd was treated to several musical numbers by the amazing Inner City Choir. After all the athletes received their awards, Congresswoman Maxine 'the Voice" Waters took to the podium and thanked the athletes for their achievements and called on the community to make improvements in education and demand accountability of their elected officials.
It was grand evening that CLA was honored to be a part of. A big shout out to Jeffrey Coprich Sr.and Jabari Ali for organizing such a glorious and inspiring event. We wish all the worthy award recipients continued success and look forward to next year.
