The Gardena Serra Cavaliers defeated the Loyola Cubs 35-17 in a Mission League battle Friday night.
Led by the stellar play of quarterback Khalil Tate, Serra jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter. The Serra defense forced two interceptions, including Tyler Hall's 45 yard return for a touchdown. The Cavaliers led Loyola 20-0 before the Cubs could settle into the game.
The Arizona commit finished the contest with 166 rushing yards and 3 total touchdowns for the Cavaliers.

Loyola got on the board in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 20-7. Serra responded with a touchdown of their own to take a 27-7 lead.
The Cubs added a touchdown before halftime and trailed 27-14 heading into the locker room.
Despite a solid performance from running back Drake Beasley, Loyola was unable to mount a comeback in the second half and dropped their first game of the season.
Both teams should be a force to reckon with in the Mission League moving forward.
