The Gardena Serra Cavaliers and Chaminade Eagles of West Hills lock horns tonight in a highly anticipated Mission League Showdown.
Both teams are stacked with D1 bound student athletes at every level. Serra enters the contest 6-0, fresh off a dominating 63-7 victory over Harvard Westlake in the Mission League opener last week.
CLA caught up with Serra quarterback and Boise State commit Jalen Greene in the lead up to the big game.
"We've been practicing hard all week. Coach Altenberg has been preaching high tempo all week. We want to keep it consistent. If we can get the ball to dudes like Adoree' (Jackson) and Jordan (Lasley), we should be fine," Greene told CLA sports.
Greene has shined for the Cavaliers with his play and leadership. Jalen is resolute in his commitment to Boise State and Bronco Nation.
Jalen Greene Midseason Highlights: Passing
"Schools try to get through my coach but my recruitment has been shutdown since I committed in March. I'm not taking any other visits except Boise. Most schools only take one quarterback commit from each class," said Greene.
His counterpart at quarterback is Miami commit and Elite 11 quarterback Brad Kaaya. In recent weeks, Kaaya has landed scholarship offers from local powers USC and UCLA. Brad has led the Eagles to a 5-1 record, including a 48-7 road win at Cathedral to open league play. The Eagles lone defeat was a 55-54 overtime nail biter to undefeated Hart.
Brad Kaaya 2013 Highlights: Chaminade vs Oaks
Kaaya has plenty of talented playmakers at his disposal, including brothers Donavan and Dymond Lee, as well as Cory Watkins, Brandyn Lee, Zach Kalkwarf and Yancy Kieren.
The teams common opponent to this point was Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks. Both games came down to the final play. Serra pulled out a 20-13 double overtime home win while Chaminade squeezed out a 46-43 home victory.
Serra Midseason Highlights: Defense
It should be a classic battle between two outstanding football teams. CLA will be on hand to document the action and get post-game reactions from the players. Much like last year, this game is a likely preview to the Western Division Championship.
