Gardena Serra vs Notre Dame HS Football Preview

State Champs Host Notre Dame

The Gardena Serra Cavaliers host the Notre Dame Knights (Sherman Oaks) Friday night in a rematch of last season's classic opener that Serra won 26-23 on a late touchdown by Marques Rodgers. Serra went on to win the state title and is a favorite to repeat again this season.

Both teams are coming off impressive victories at the 2013 Honor Bowl. Serra rallied from a 39-28 deficit to defeat Oceanside 50-39 thanks to money performances from Boise State commit quarterback Jalen Greene and UCLA commit receiver Jordan Lasley. On defense, Olajuwon Tucker had three interceptions and Malachi Mageo had a momentum turning pick six that ignited the Cavs comeback.

We spoke with Serra QB Jalen Greene today, and he's well-prepared.

"I go into each practice and film session like it's my last every week. I try to set the perfect example for my squad everyday. If we handle business it won't be like last week (Oceanside) at all. 'Champions love work. Wannabes love the idea,'" Greene told CLA Sports.

Serra vs. Notre Dame: 2012 Highlight Mixtape

The following day, Notre Dame took care of business, defeating Del Oro (Loomis) 41-24. Quarterback Grant Kraemer linked up with playmaking receiver Daniel Khan on two long touchdown strikes. Khan had over 150 yards receiving and was named MVP.

Cal commit Koa Farmer balled out on both sides of the ball, scoring touchdowns out of the Wildcat formation and patrolling the secondary. Two-way athlete Mike Little made some nice plays on both sides and will be taking an unofficial visit to USC on Saturday.

CLA expects a hard hitting competitive battle between two well coached teams stacked with D1Bound athletes.
