War Eagle nation landed a supremely talented quarterback this week when Elite 11 MVP Sean White announced his commitment to Auburn. White's pinpoint accuracy, excellent pocket presence and quick release makes the likelihood of the 2014 commit playing as a freshman a strong possibility.
CLA had the opportunity to watch the University School (FL) gun-slinger ball out at the IMG 7on7 National Championships in Bradenton, FL last month. The following week, White shined at the Elite 11 quarterback competition and The Opening at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR, drawing huge praise from former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer.
Sean White at Elite 11: Before Commitment
"His accurate isn't just accurate. It's exact. It's an NFL type of ball…he has an artistic ball. He paints a picture with his ball," Dilfer told ESPN.
White's stellar performance in the 7on tournament was pivotal in leading the Field Generals to the championship and earning MVP honors. White out dueled Florida commit Will Grier in the title game, connecting with playmaker Braxton Berrios for the game-winning touchdown in a tight contest.
The Auburn program has fallen on hard times since Cam Newton led the Tigers to the 2010 national title. A primary cause for their decline has been the inadequate play at quarterback. With the hiring of offensive guru Gus Malzahn as new head coach, the Tigers offense should improve.
Sean White Highlights: Elite 11 + IMG 7v7
"I just loved everything about Auburn when I visited last weekend. The stadium, the atmosphere on game days, the level of football and they are so tight…I think we will have a great ability to win the SEC in the future. I'm just so fired up about everything. It's just an amazing place," White told ESPN.
A quarterback with Whtie's skill set should flourish under Malzahn. White's uncanny accuracy combined with his ability to go through his progressions and make quick reads will be a welcomed addition for the Auburn faithful.
