Class of 2014 dual-sport Temecula Valley student athlete Kyle Plantier is primed for a big season on the baseball diamond and the grid-iron. Plantier has all the skills necessary to land several scholarship offers in both sports.
Just yesterday, Plantier bashed a grand slam to win the game against Murrieta Mesa and improve the Golden Bears record to 15-4. With the victory, Temecula Valley holds a 3-game lead in the Southwestern standings.
Plantier, who plays third base and shortstop, leads Temecula Valley in hits and RBIs and is batting around .400 this season. Kyle's stellar play has certainly caught the eye of college coaches.
"UC Riverside was there because I got my offer (baseball) from them and that coach comes out every Wednesday. USC is recruiting me for baseball too," Plantier told CLA Sports.
While Kyle should continue to land baseball offers, he's eager to for the football interest to heat up.
"It's whichever one plays out the best but football recruiting is starting to hit hard now. I'm just trying to get an offer for football, " Plantier said.
Plantier has received positive feedback from coaches and recruiters.
"I met with the linebackers Coach Ken Wilson and he said he liked what he saw. He gave me the camp info and a questionnaire to fill out and said we'll be back down in a couple of weeks and wants to watch me throw. He was visiting Vista Murrieta because they offered Curtis Bolton, Gregg Hoyd and Tyler Cook," said Plantier.
"Coach (Wilson) said their starting quarterback just graduated. I think I might go up for their camp, it just depends. It's June 20th and I think I might go up there," he Plantier.
Not surprisingly, Plantier is receiving interest from other programs.
"I've been invited to the San Diego State and Boise State camp. Coach Peterson sent me a hand written letter. They're supposed to come down in a couple weeks. I'm going to the SDSU camp on June 2nd at Long Beach City College. My coach said they'll be coming around school a couple more times before spring is over. They watched tape and he said he was really impressed," Plantier said.
CLA expects Plantier to continue to mash for the Golden Bears baseball team and looks forward to following his senior campaign under center for the football team in the fall.
