Class of 2015 Dougherty Valley Tackle Kieffer Longson

6'7" 290 Offensive Lineman Plays Nasty

The game of football is usually won in the trenches. Controlling the line of scrimmage is critical to a team's offensive success. Great quarterbacks are made to look mediocre without protection and time to sling the rock. That's why the left tackle is generally the second highest paid player on an NFL team after the quarterback.

At Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, CA, class of 2015 offensive tackle Kieffer Longson possesses the size and skill to dominate his position. Standing 6-7, the 290-pound bruiser Longson has the versatility to block down field and always plays to the whistle while providing the ultimate security blanket for a quarterback's blind side in the passing game. In addition to his physical attributes, Longson possesses the drive and determination to play at the next level and beyond.

Kieffer Longson 2015 OL: Week 1 Highlights

CLA had the chance to catch up with Longson shortly after his team's 14-13 victory over American High in Fremont. Kieffer and the Wildcats are 2-1 this season. When it comes to playing at the next level, Longson has a clear understanding of what he's looking for.

"Right now, I don't have a favorite. I just have two goals in choosing a college: one- to get a great education, and two- to play for a program that will give me an opportunity to play in the NFL," Longson told CLA Sports.

Kieffer Longson 2015 OL: Week 2 Highlights

Longson is a student of the game and acquires the knowledge to master his craft from studying the elite tackles in the business.

"Well, I am a huge "Blind Side" fan, so I have to mention Michael Oher. Then, I really think Jason Peters (Philadelphia Eagles) is the best Left Tackle in the game because he is so dominant against both the run and the pass. Finally, I have to mention Joe Staley (go 49ers!) because he is a workhorse," said Longson.

When you check the tape, Longson is usually mauling his opponent.

"It feels good knowing that you won the individual battle, but you have to help the other guy up and then forget about it because you have to go onto the next play," said Longson.

Longson enjoys run blocking at the point of attack.

"Probably any run play that runs to my side, but in particular, Wedge Left," Longson said.

A player of Longson's stature is valuable on either side of the ball.

"I am already playing defense, I don't start on defense this year but we have a rotating d-line in order to keep people fresh and I am part of that rotation. But it is all about the team and whatever will help the team win," Longson said.

Longson and the Wildcats host Anitoch this Friday in a non-league contest as they prepare for Diablo Foothill league play. Stay tuned for more updates from CLA on Kieffer Longson and the Dougherty Valley Wildcats.
