Valencia 6'2" 245 senior defensive end Josh Stanton played a huge role in the Vikings week one victory over Palmdale. Stanton has already received an offer from Wyoming and is getting interest from Arizona State and Colorado State.
Stanton filled up the stat sheet last week against Palmdale and finished the game with 7 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
"Going into half-time we were trailing by six. One of our safeties, J.J. Wilson got two picks and that really changed the game," Stanton told CLA tonight.
Thursday night Valencia takes on Chaminade and Miami (FL) 2014 QB commit Brad Kaaya. Chaminade lost a thriller to Hart last week and is looking to get back on track.
"They're big. As I've been told they have a Miami (FL) quarterback commit, and he's good. They have two speed running backs that like to run in the middle," said Stanton.
Although Chaminade has plenty of weapons, Stanton is confident in the ability of his defense.
"I feel that the defense is gonna step it up this week. I don't think it's going to be a high-scoring game. I'm definitely going to step it up," he said.
On the defensive side of the ball Valencia has a few other key players including LB Justin Son, DE Jordan Nguyen and LB Alex Tapia.
"Basically we like to hit. We like to hit a lot. Pursuing the ball is another key thing for us. If people have the ball we like to hit 'em," Stanton expressed.
Recruiting will pick up soon if Stanton keeps performing similar to last week, and he's getting interest from the Pac-12 and beyond.
"I've been talking to Arizona State, Colorado State and Texas State," Josh told CLA.
CLA will be in attendance for the game Thursday night and have coverage of Chaminade vs. Valencia, along with highlight videos, photos, interviews and more.
