Jamardre Cobb is the real deal. On one hand, Cobb can take a lick and keep on ticking, as proven by the recent 15 stitches he received above his eye after colliding with a teammate during a 7on7 game. On the other hand, he's known amongst the high school and college football world for being the one who delivers the blows.
At 6'2 220, Cobb has a mean streak on the field and high-motor that has helped him land him 13 official scholarship offers at this point in the recruiting process. Although he plays both ways, Cobb projects as a MLB with sideline to sideline range and a knack for consuming ball carriers with a tenacity rarely seen at the high school level.
Jamardre is part of a 2014 recruiting class at Bishop Mora Salesian High School (Los Angeles) that is considered one of the top on the West Coast, as fellow Mustangs defensive player Marquis Ware has reeled in 15 offers thus far.
The future Division I student-athlete remains humble despite the attention he has received. "I'm excited that I'm doing well," he says.
Doing well is an understatement when you've received offers from top college football programs such as Stanford, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Wisconsin before your senior year of high school.
With official offers from several Pac-12 schools, Cobb has been receiving interest from USC and is in regular contact with their coaching staff.
"They said they reviewed my highlight tape and liked what they saw," he told CLA Sports.
College coaches see Jamardre on the field and the obvious comes to mind. "They say I'm very physical and I play with high-intensity," he said when asked what coaches say about his game.
At this point there are no clear favorites for the Salesian linebacker and Cobb is enjoying the process thus far. "South Carolina, Wisconsin, Arizona Stateā¦ pretty much all of them I vibe with the coaches," he says.
Cobb says that he's liked Stanford since he was a youngster, which is no wonder the Cardinal have already extended an offer. He's also been fond of a few other schools since childhood.
"When I was younger I really wanted to go to SC or Washington. Those are the two I've been waiting for offers from," he said.
As a returning starter on a team that went several rounds into the CIF Playoffs last season, Cobb looks to lead the Mustangs back to glory. "This year's team is going to come back stronger and faster. We have a bunch of young guys and we're going to be an explosive team," he says.
If you're having second thoughts about watching a Salesian HS football game this season, we'll leave you with this from Jamardre.
"Watch my highlight tape. I play 100% every down."
