Boise State offered quarterback Jalen Greene (QB/2014) today while the junior and his father strolled the campus. Greene was excited to see the business school. "That's what I'm going to major in," he told CLA Sports today.
The reigning CIF State Champion Serra Cavaliers have a stacked 2014 recruiting class. It's no question that football teams live and die by the quarterback and Jalen Greene lived to the fullest for his team last season. Greene led the Cavs to the CIF Division III State title and finished the season with over 3,500 yards of total offense.
"I've been talking to Coach (Jonathan) Smith and we made it official last week that I was going to come out here on Thursday," he said. "I’m really excited. We got out here Thursday and we’ve been touring since then."
Greene has been able able to take advantage of the time on his unofficial visit to the home of the Broncos.
"I watched film with the quarterback coach, and he had a couple of my clips and asked me about my game. He drew up a couple of plays and showed me what kind of plays they run. It’s like the offense we run now. We basically run the same exact thing they do," Greene said.
Jalen Greene will play quarterback at the college level for those who may get it twisted. It's a thing of the past to ask athletic quarterbacks to change positions when they enter the college ranks. Johnny Manziel's Heisman Trophy has ended that myth once and for all. The best of the best quarterbacks must be dual-threat.
Serra Head Coach Scott Altenberg told Greene that some schools have called to ask if he can play other positions, but he lets them know he is strictly a quarterback.
"Pretty much all of them have been recruiting me to play quarterback," says Greene.
With Boise State as his first official offer, Jalen Greene will continue to gain more attention and I predict that he'll have all the offers he needs when it's all said and done. He said that there are no schools in particular he's looking for offers from and he'll welcome any program that is interested in his services as a leader. "Florida used to be one the big schools I liked with Tebow and Urban Meyer when I was younger," said Greene.
With regards to other schools who have shown interest, he says, "I know Arizona and Arizona State are pretty close to offering."
With a return to the field in the fall Greene looks to keep his team focused, "even though our recruitment has taken off," as he states.
Serra has become one of the most prominent high school programs in California over the past several years, but Jalen takes it all in stride. "I think the other students are pretty used to it because of Robert (Woods) and Marqise (Lee). We don't act any different than everybody else," he said.
Last season Jalen Greene earned 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Area, 1st Team Daily Breeze and 1st Team Mission League. Add his first CIF State Championship and first scholarship offer to the mix and stay-tuned for more.
