Inglewood High School has been preparing for the 2012 campaign since midway through last season. Head Coach Stephen Thomas watched his squad slip to a 1-5 record through the first 6 games of 2011, but that's when things changed.
Halfway through the year in 2011, Thomas helped motivate his team and righted the ship at Inglewood and coached the Sentinels to four consecutive victories and a playoff berth. Even though Inglewood lost in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Football Playoffs, Thomas has nonetheless been able to keep his team intensely focused and optimistic about the upcoming season.
Inglewood will kickoff the 2012 HS football season in full stride. The Sentinels have participated in several 7on7 passing league tournaments during the months of June and July, which has allowed the players to develop a cohesiveness well before the opening of fall camp. Inglewood cruised to claim the 2012 LA Watts Summer Games 7on7 Football Championship and quarterback Ricky Calderon was voted the Tournament MVP after leading his team to an undefeated record over the two-day tourney.
Inglewood has high hopes after finishing the 2011 season 5-5, and players such as defensive back Tre Wilcoxen (DB/2013), who recently participated in the B2G Elite Camp, look to lead the Sentinels to a solid 2012 campaign. Wilcoxen currently has official scholarship offers from Ohio and South Dakota State. The senior-to-be has received a lot of interest from several Pac-12 schools and will likely receive several more offers before National Signing Day 2013.
Chauntez Jackson (DE/2013) is another returning senior from Inglewood who has multiple scholarship offers. Jackson holds offers from Tennessee, San Diego State, Utah State, Idaho State and Washington State. Standing 6'4" 235, Jackson is yet another B2G Elite Camp participant. Jackson has great speed off the edge and will gain the attention of many more top college football programs in 2012. The class of 2013 recruit will undoubtedly stack several more scholarship offers before it's all said and done.
In addition to Jackson and Wilcoxen, Dylan Durr (ATH/2013) will impact the game from multiple angles for the Sentinels in 2012. Durr is a high school version of the "Honeybadger" and his skills as a ball hawk on defense are like none other. Durr's highlight film reads like this: "Big hit, big hit, pick, big hit, pick, pass breakup, pick, big hit, big hit, big hit..." You can get the picture. Head Coach Stephen Thomas has Inglewood ready for the 2012 HS football season and College Level Athletes will be there first-hand to catch the action. We're looking forward to the Morningside matchup in the last week of the season, which will be a rematch of the 2012 LA Watts Summer Games 7on7 Championship game.
Inglewood looks to kickoff the 2012 season opener and avenge last year's loss to Mira Costa in week one. The Sentinels travel up to Bakersfield to take on Stockdale HS in week two.
