The latest 2013 Cal Bears football commit is defensive end Garrett Hughes from Centennial High School (Corona, CA). Hughes gave his commitment to UC Berkeley today and gave the scoop to College Level Athletes.
Garrett Hughes has proved that he's willing to work hard and for the past few seasons he has contributed to a Corona Centennial state-ranked defensive unit. "I enjoyed the visit when I went up there on my official... I just decided that Cal was the right decision for me. It's close to home, still in California," Hughes told CLA.
When asked about where he'll fit in with the Cal Bears, Hughes said, "Coach Howard told me that he loves my quickness, my speed, he says he loves my stance. Feels that I'm a strong player.. They would like me to play either tackle or maybe even outside linebacker."
Over the summer, CLA caught up with Hughes at the Primetime Polynesian Football Clinic in Corona, CA where he was able to improve his strength and conditioning and prepare for the 2012 HS football season.
It looks like things are paying off for the Centennial HS senior, and the 6-1 Huskies are looking to make another run at the CIF State Championship.
