The Concord De La Salle Spartans took care of business Saturday night, rolling to a convincing 35-10 victory over the Servite Friars.
The Spartans seized control of the game from the outset, nearly taking the opening handoff to the house. Senior bulldozing back John Velasco capped off the drive with a short touchdown run to give De La Salle a 7-0 lead.
Servite muffed the ensuing kickoff, setting De La Salle up with great field position. The Spartans cashed in on the miscue, extending the lead to 14-0 on Velasco's second score of the evening.

Trailing 14-0, the Friars moved the ball deep into De La Salle territory. The Spartans D, buoyed by the return of Arizona State commit Das Tautalatasi from injury, stepped up and forced a turnover on downs.
The De La Salle defense is loaded with playmakers on every level, including defensive back and Washington State commit Kevin Griffin. The defensive line is anchored up front by junior big man Kahlil McKenzie.

The Spartans added to the lead on a short touchdown run by quarterback Chris Williiams. Leading 21-0, sophomore speedster Antoine Custer extended the lead to 28-0 with an impressive touchdown scamper. The De La Salle offensive line, featuring heavily recruited Larry Allen Jr., opened up running lanes for the Spartan ball carriers

After a muffed punt set up Servite inside the Spartan redzone, the De La Salle defense stood tall and kept the Friars out of the end zone. Servite missed their field goal try and trailed 28-0 at halftime.
Arizona State Commit Das Tautalatasi Interview
Servite mounted a drive deep into De La Salle territory in the second half but Tautalatasi intercepted Travis Waller on the goal line to maintain the shutout.
The Friars finally got on the board with a field goal early in the final quarter. Velasco's third touchdown of the game extended the lead to 35-3. A late touchdown strike from Waller to Tony Brown cut the gap to 35-10.

In the end, De La Salle proved much too strong for Servite and extended their winning streak to 32 games. The defending 4-time CIF state champs improved to 6-0 with a bye week looming. Servite begins league play against powerhouse Mater Dei next Friday.
