The Corona Centennial Huskies host the national powerhouse Bishop Gorman Gaels of Las Vegas Friday night.
Both squads pulled out tough victories last week. Bishop Gorman outlasted nationally ranked Bingham of Utah 23-20 in overtime while Centennial topped Orange Lutheran 52-49 in a high-scoring shootout at the Honor Bowl in Oceanside.
After dropping their opener to Mater Dei 38-18, the Huskies bounced back with an impressive performance against Orange Lutheran. Running back JJ Taylor stole the show, rushing for over 200 yards including an electrifying 79-yard touchdown burst.
Centennial Wins 52-49 vs Orange Lutheran
Centennial receivers Greyson Bankhead and Javon McKinley provide solid targets for quarterbacks Anthony Catalano and Nate Ketteringham. The offense will need to be clicking on all cylinders for the Huskies to take down Gorman.
The Gaels offense is loaded with playmakers. Cordell Broadus, Alize Jones and Tyjon Lindsey provide dual-threat quarterback Tate Martell with an arsenal of weapons to light up the scoreboard. Running back Russell Booze has rushed for 283 yards with six touchdowns.
In addition to throwing five touchdowns with no interceptions, Martell has rushed for 177 yards and proved why he's so highly coveted by college programs.
Cordell Broadus Junior Highlights
The Gorman defense is stacked at every level and should present a serious challenge to the Huskies young quarterbacks.
Nicco Fertitta Junior Highlights
Sophomore Haskell Garrett and senior Noah Tialavea are a force on the defensive line while Nela Otukalo and Nicco Fertitta lay the wood.
Centennial should get a boost from a raucous capacity crowd but it will take a lot more than that to take down Gorman. CLA will be in attendance to catch the action and get post game reactions.
