CLA spoke with 2016 WR Brandon Burton about the upcoming season, Fall camp and recruiting. We asked Burton about the depth chart this season and what he's been doing in the off-season to prepare.
Last season, Burton was featured primarily on special teams. Luckily for CLA, we were in attendance on the sidelines when Burton scored on an incredible pick six in the CIF playoffs.
"I'm the backup receiver. I start at safety and I'm the kick returner and punt returner alongside Adoree'. Me and Nacho (Glen Ihenacho) at safety, then we got, Jaybo (Jalen Jones) and Adoree' at corner," Burton told CLA.
Brandon Burton: Freshman Highlights
This year Burton will lineup at both X and Z for the defending CIF State Champion Serra Cavaliers. Starting senior wide receiver Jordan Lasley recently committed to UCLA and WR Greg Webb looks to improve his stock with help from Boise State 2014 QB commit Jalen Greene.
"I know both positions, so I can play both. Greg and Jordan are out there," said Burton.
Serra has a bevy of underclassmen that are or will soon be national recruits, including Burton, Blake Walls, John Houston, Rasheem Green and CJ Pollard.
"We got a lot of young dudes playing that are actually on the field and know what they're doing," says Burton.
During spring practice we spoke with Serra recruiting coordinator Rico Perez who had many great things to say about the young Brandon Burton.
"He might even be better than Woody (Robert Woods) when he leaves Serra," said Coach Perez.
Brandon Burton: CLA Recruit Interview
Burton has already received offers from USC, UCLA, Florida, Florida State and Utah. Don't think he's satisfied with those offers. The 2016 phenom is hungry for more.
"I've been up here at Serra doing footwork drills, working with Jalen (Greene), and at the beach running every weekend. My two cousins are track runners. That's every Saturday," said Burton.
There's no question Brandon Burton has the talent to excel for the Serra Cavs this season. With a great work ethic and 6'1 180 athletic body, Burton has the talent to become the future of Serra football.
