Bishop Gorman vs. St. John Bosco: Game Preview

Gorman vs Bosco in Sin City

In a matchup of two prep football heavyweights, the Bishop Gorman Gaels host the St. John Bosco Braves Friday night at Fertitta Field in Las Vegas. The game will be televised live on ESPN at 6pm.

The highly anticipated showdown features two of the best quarterbacks on the West Coast. UCLA commit Josh Rosen led the CIF champion Braves to an undefeated season as a junior and is poised to repeat.

Bishop Gorman sophomore sensation Tate Martell seized the reigns under center against Servite and proved why he is one of the most coveted gun-slingers in the nation. Martell recently picked up a scholarship offer from USC and should rack up several more in the near future.

Bishop Gorman Wins vs Centennial: Highlights

Both teams come into the contest undefeated. The Gaels (5-0) have faced a gauntlet of tough California squads, tallying wins over Servite, Corona Centennial and Santa Margarita. The comeback 43-42 victory at Corona Centennial was the most recent scare to date.

As for Bosco, the Braves (3-0) have rolled to convincing victories thus far, winning by at least 28 points in each contest. Joining Rosen in the backfield is speedster Sean McGrew who is a threat to take it to the house every time he has the ball. Junior receivers Jared Harrell and Anselem Umeh have provided solid targets for Rosen in the passing game.

Bosco Wins vs Central Catholic (OR): Highlights

Martell has a bevy of weapons at his disposal as well. Tight end Alize Jones is committed to UCLA and is virtually unguardable in the red zone. Receivers Cordell Broadus and Tyjon Lindsey are both playmakers. Senior Russell Booze has rushed for 638 yards and eight touchdowns while junior Jonathan Shumaker has come on strong recently with three touchdowns in the last two games.

The Bishop Gorman defense is loaded with hard hitters including Nela Otukolo, Nicco Fertitta, Haskell Garrett and Noah Tialavea. The Gaels D will have their hands full with Rosen and company. The Bosco defense has not allowed more than 14 points to an opponent this season. It will be interesting to see if the Braves D can contain Martell and the high powered Gaels offensive machine.
