The 2012 LA Watts Summer Games 7on7 High School Football Tournament was a great success. Led by the determination and experience of Coach Jose "Coco" Jarin, who was the Football Chair for the 2012 LAWSG. Along with Football co-Chair Kenny Lawler, Jarin organized 16 high schools football teams from the CIF Southern Section that included the likes of Locke, Inglewood, Morningside, Diamond Bar, Verbum Dei, Franklin, Lincoln and several others.
The two-day tournament featured pool play competition and was hosted at the Home Depot Center and surrounding California State Dominguez Hills University. Jarin, who coached at Mt. San Antonio College alongside USC great Bill Fisk, orchestrated a tournament that shows great promise. Players were encouraged to practice sportsmanship and although competition was tough, the teams embodied the camaraderie instilled by Jarin and his staff of volunteers.
Inglewood was able to finish the tournament undefeated and claimed the title in a lopsided victory over Morningside. Inglewood QB Ricky Calderon led the Sentinels to a solid performance in the championship game and took home the 2012 LA Watts Summer Games 7on7 MVP Award.
Look forward to much more coming from CLA and Coach Jose "Coco" Jarin.
