A handful of Southern California's top football recruits walked onto the grounds of the CIF State Track Meet in Fresno on Friday (6/4/2010) with unmatched confidence.
In the 110M Hurdles, junior Devon Blackmon (Summit) finished 6th in the preliminary round in a time of 14.16.
Another junior sprinter who handled business in what may become his third CIF title this season was Gardena Serra's George Farmer. Farmer burst into flames on Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School in Fresno today. Farmer finished 2nd overall in the 100M prelims with a time of 10.40, which is only a tenth of a second of the CIF meet record. 2011 USC verbal commit DeAnthony Thomas (Crenshaw) finished 10th in the qualifying round in 10.57 seconds.
The boys 200M was a showcase of incredible speed in the qualifying round. DeAnthony Thomas (21.01), Robert Woods (21.04) and George Farmer (21.22) finished second, third and seventh overall, respectively. In the 400M Robert Woods won his heat by more than a second, and finished first overall in a time of 47.01.
One of the brightest moments of the boys competition was Gardena Serra's 4x400 team of of Robert Woods, Francisco Olloqui, Pete Lauderdale, and Darrel Fuery who won the preleminary round in a CIF State Meet record time of 3:08.42, while the second place team (LB Poly) finished more than seven seconds behind Serra in a time of 3:15.56.
