Mission Viejo Defeats El Toro 49-7, Wins South Coast League

Max Redfield Balls on Offense, Defense and Special Teams for Mission Viejo

The Mission Viejo Diablos overpowered the El Toro Chargers 49-7 in a highly anticipated clash for the South Coast League crown. Both teams came into the game undefeated but the Diablos proved supreme.

The Mission Viejo defense forced Utah bound El Toro quarterback Conner Manning into six interceptions and bottled up the Chargers high-powered offense.

The Diablos offense was led by talented junior quarterback Ian Fieber, who was firing darts all over the field and getting the ball into the hands of his playmakers, like USC commit Max Redfield.

Mission Viejo took a 7-0 lead on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Fieber to Sean Modster.

El Toro moved the ball deep into Mission Viejo territory a few times in the first half but the drives were snuffed out by the Diablos ball-hawking secondary led by Redfield and safety Jesse Holmes.

The Diablos extended the lead to 14-0 when Marcus Collins broke a 34-yard touchdown run down the left sideline.

The Chargers scored their lone touchdown on a short touchdown strike from Manning to Dominic Collins to cut the deficit to 14-7.

Mission Viejo quickly answered the Chargers score in exciting fashion. Fieber connected with standout Max Redfield on a 48-yard touchdown strike to give the Diablos a 21-7 halftime advantage.

The second half belonged to Mission Viejo. The Diablos wore down the Chargers and extended the lead to 28-7 on a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Alex Suchesk.

Big man Garrett Marino put the game away with a 22-yard touchdown run up the gut. Fieber threw his third touchdown of the game on a 16-yard pass to Braxton Shirley.

The final nail in the coffin came fittingly from the defensive side of the ball when Hunter Remington intercepted Manning and returned it 31 yards to the house for a 49-7 victory.

El Toro suffered their first defeat of the season and fall to 9-1 while Mission Viejo improves to 10-0 and claim their sixth league title in eight years.
