Loyola Defeats Pasadena 80-56, Will Face LB Poly in Quarterfinals

Parker Jackson-Cartwright Leads Cubs to Playoff Win

The Loyola Cubs defeated the Pasadena Bulldogs 80-56 to advance in the CIFSS 1AA playoffs. The Cubs blew open a tight game in the fourth quarter. CLA contributor C-Dawg was in the house and on the call for this intense matchup.

C-Dawg Postgame Analysis:

Parker Jackson-Cartwright was definitely an engine for Loyola at the end of each half. In the 4th, he popped a three in the hole as two Pasadena defenders closed in on him that was one of his many highlight plays.....Pasadena's Raymond Jackson took a pump pass from Brandon Jolley and dunked a pretty filthy one thru the rack in the 3rd quarter.

Loyola bucketeer Trey Mason was hot from the get go, making 6 shots in a row to fuel Loyola. Mason had 15 of the Cubs 17 pts in the first quarter, and their 7 ft Center - Thomas Welsh - was 6 of 7 in the paint. He had a lil short-mid range stroke as well as four blocked shots (at least) on PHS.

The game got ugly with a flurry of technical fouls leveled against Pasadena late including ejection of two players (both seniors) and head coach. All of a sudden two point game, seven point game, turned into 24 point lopsided loss. Fourth quarter score --- Loyola 32 Pasadena 13. Loyola makes 16 of 18 free throws, 13 of 14 coming within just a elapsed clock span of seven seconds.

Loyola ended the game on a 30-8 run in the final six minutes.

Trey Mason led the Cubs with 21 points while Parker Jackson-Cartwright poured in 19.

Loyola will take on Long Beach Poly Friday night in what promises to be a classic quarterfinal battle.
