Long Beach Poly Girls Win CIF Division I Regional Final

Tania Lamb Leads Poly Girls to CIF Title Game

In the CIF Division I Girls Regional Championship , the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits defeated the Canyon Springs Cougars 63-40 to advance to the state title game in Sacramento next week.

It was a highly competitive first quarter. Jordyn Penniman led the Cougars with five points in the quarter while Tania Lamb and Arica Carter each scored five for the Jackrabbits. Poly held a 15-11 advantage after the first quarter.

The Poly girls came out strong in the second quarter and quickly extended their advantage. Poly outscored Canyon Springs 20-10 in the second. Pressure defense led to turnovers and easy baskets giving Poly a 35-21 halftime lead.

At the half, Lamb leads Poly with 10 points while Carter scored eight. Penniman leads all Cougar scorers with seven points.

Poly continued to extend the lead in the third quarter. The Jackrabbits held a huge 55-28 advantage heading into the final quarter. Poly's press defense has forced many Cougar turnovers that have led to easy buckets for Poly.

Through three quarters, Poly forced 17 turnovers that they converted into 14 points.

The fourth quarter produced more of the same as Poly continued to roll. The Cougars fought valiantly to the end but the Jackrabbits proved too strong and pulled out an impressive 63-40 victory.

Lamb finished the game with 16 points, while Jada Matthews netted 10 and Carter ended up with 9 points to lead LB Poly. Cheyenne Greenhouse was the leading scorer for Canyon Springs, finishing with 14 points for the Socal Regional runner-ups.
