HS Thursday night football report: Diego Rivera Wins vs Marshall

Jameel Malik Runs Wild

Diego Rivera (formerly known as "South Region 2") did most of its damage in the first half and maintained a 26-0 lead at the intermission before strolling to a 32-8 nonleague win over Marshall of Pasadena at Pasadena High School.

**Jameel Malik (9 runs, 76 yards, 2 TDs) kicked clear and breezed into the endzone on an 80-yard dash to end a scoreless duel and put the Huskies on the board first with 1:50 left in the opening stanza before crossing the pylons from two yards out for another touchdown run and a 14-0 second quarter lead.

**The going was anything but favorable against the Eagles, culminating in three punts, two interceptions, and falling one yard shy of moving the chains on fourth down to account for its first six possessions while scattering just four first downs across the opening half.

**Marshall nevertheless received a strong performance on the ground by Christian Clark, who led all rushers with 157 yards on 17 carries, all of which for positive yardage, including a 16-yard house call for his team's lone touchdown with 8:39 to play.

**Clark finished averaging a solid 9.2 yards per attempt.

**Juan Mulato completed 11 of 15 passes (including nine of his last 10) for 247 yards and two touchdowns to lead Diego Rivera thru the air.

**Mulato's first scoring hit, an 87-yard gain, involved an offensive fumble recovery en route to the score. Raysean Clayton made the initial catch only to lose it at the Huskie 40, where teammate Shaves Adkins emerged out of the resulting frenzy with the pigskin in hand and took it 60 yards from the spot of loss to the house for a 20-0 Huskie lead.

**Adkins, amassing 109 yards over five receptions, earned his second touchdown via receiving as Mulato spiraled to him on second and goal from seven yards out 18.1 seconds before halftime.

**Both Clayton and Adkins contributed defensively with an interception to terminate consecutive Marshall drives.

**Geovanni Serrano (7 runs, 107 yards, TD) came through huge on his final two carries to finish as the Huskies' lead rusher off a series-opening 28-yard gain late in the third and a 68-yard sprint into the endzone (7:48 4Q).

**The Diego Rivera Huskies improved to 3-1 and will enjoy an eight day break until one final nonleague tuneup due next Friday against the Wilson Mules prior to the start of Eastern League competition the following week.

**Marshall fell to 1-3 and will get a lengthy 15 day regrouping respite before action resumes Friday, October 4th on the road against a tough University High squad from Los Angeles, which lost a close 17-6 battle to perennial LA City Section force San Pedro last Friday.
