In terms of route running, Peake eats up ground quickly against defensive backs with his long stride and breaks the cushion with ease. Peake also displays the natural ability to get in and out of his breaks smoothly, which is rare for a player of his size on any level. Another great aspect of Peake's game is his ability to catch the underneath screen pass and run after the catch. This is a role usually given to smaller, shiftier receivers, but Peake's playmaking skills allow him to make people miss whenever he gets the ball in his hands.
Last seaon, Peake led led the Dorman Cavaliers to the Division I-4A state title over highly touted running back recruit Marcus Lattimore (South Carolina commit, 2010) and Byrnes High School (28-17). Charone finished the season with 52 catches, 881 yards and 9 touchdowns.
On a team that has already produced one Clemson verbal commit in the class of 2010 in wide receiver Adam Humphries, Peake is poised to take his time in the recruiting process. When asked about his goals for the upcoming season, Peake told CLA Sports that he'd like to "Do enough where my teammates can get looked at." This highlights the fact that Peake is the ultimate team player and possesses maturity beyond his age for a student-athlete.
Peake will be a great asset to whichever university he decides to attend and is dedicated to improving his stock while aiming at another state football championship at Dorman High School in South Carolina as a senior this year. CLA Sports Interview with Charone Peake (June 7th, 2010):
CLA: You hold several scholarship offers from top BCS schools. Who is at the top of your list at this point?
Charone Peake: Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Southern Cal, North Carolina, and Notre Dame.
CLA: How much will teammate Adam Humphries' (WR/2011) early commitment to Clemson have an effect on your decision?
Charone Peake: I don't think it will, but I am very excited for him.
CLA: How was it to play and win the state championship versus one of the top running back recruits in the nation in Marcus Lattimore and Byrnes High School?
Charone Peake: It felt great, but sometimes you just have to forget who your playing against and just play ball.
CLA: You stated that USC is the only school in the Pac-10 that you are interested in, although you have multiple Pac-10 offers. What sets the Trojans apart in being one of the top schools you are interested in?
Charone Peake: Just how rare it is to get a chance to play there.
CLA: Is there anyone in the 2010 or 2011 USC recruiting class that you could see yourself playing with?
Charone Peake: Kyle Prater and Dillon Baxter.
CLA: What impresses you most about those players?
Charone Peake: Just how much talent they have and there are a lot of other great players in that USC (recruiting) class too.
CLA: Are there any QBs on your list that you would like to play with most?
Charone Peake: I like Jeff Driskel (Florida commit) and Christian Lemay (Georgia commit).
CLA: Does that mean you are most likely to sign with Florida or Georgia?
Charone Peake: No.
CLA: What are your top 3 goals for the upcoming football season?
Charone Peake: Repeat in state, live up to the hype, and do enough where my teammates can get looked at.
CLA: Does this mean you'll wait until national signing day or after the season to choose your school?
Charone Peake: I'm not sure about that yet.
CLA: Is there any advice that you would give to student-athletes undergoing the recruiting process?
Charone Peake: Take your time with it and have fun.
