With the recent departure of quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, look for the Oregon Ducks to increase their pursuit of the Arizona prep quarterback Hundley who just returned from an unofficial visit to Eugene. "It's nice to know the QB position is open," said Hundley, who has received comparisons to NFL superstar Donovan McNabb with his ability to deliver the ball with velocity and precision, and NFL legend Randall Cunningham (Phildelphia Eagles). Hundley even punted the ball twice in a 45-42 victory over Mountain View High School, and averaged over 44 yards per punt.
Hundley is taking the recruiting process in stride, and doesn't indicate any preference of schools at this point. "I will pick the school that I feel is right. I will be narrowing down my schools shortly," Hundley said. With the frame of an NFL style quarterback, Hundley will fit right in at the next level. Hundley is a confident signal caller and in a self-assessment said that, "I'd say he has a lot of upside. Leadership, athleticism, rocket arm, and very accurate. He needs to improve on footwork."
Hundley knows he has room to grow into a more complete quarterback during the upcoming football season, and you can look for teams to continue to be high on the Chandler High School product. Whichever school Hundley decides to attend following his senior year will be the recipient of an excellent student-athlete. Hundley has posted a 3.83 grade point average in his high school career and has the mold of a true leader. Brett Hundley Junior Highlights:
CLA Sports Interview with Brett Hundley (June 9th, 2010):
CLA: How do you feel about the recent news of the dismissal of Jeremiah Masoli from the Oregon Ducks football team? Will this have any effect on your decision?
Brett Hundley: No not at all. I mean it's nice to know the QB position is open, but it's just gonna come down to what feels right.
CLA: Currently, what are your top 3 schools?
Brett Hundley: I don't have any tops right now. I will be narrowing down my schools shortly though.
CLA: As a product of Chandler High School (Arizona), do you have a preference to stay in the Pac-10, or are you seriously considering other options?
Brett Hundley: It really doesn't make a difference to me.
CLA: You've received comparisons to Donovan McNabb, and in my opinion NFL great Randall Cunningham with your abilities as a pocket passer and runner. What do you think of those comparisons?
Brett Hundley: I appreciate them. I take those (comparisons) as huge compliments because those quarterbacks are some of the greatest. I think my style is very close Donovan's. He's very agile, but has a rocket arm and I think I play a lot like him.
CLA: Are schools recruiting you for anything besides a QB?
Brett Hundley: No.
CLA: Will the decision on the Pac-10 expansion have any effect on your choice of schools?
Brett Hundley: No, not really but it is sort of cool to know that they may be a Pac-16 with more big time schools.
CLA: Any news on Joe Montana's Maui quarterback camp invitation?
Brett Hundley: Not yet. They send out the letters (to see if you made it or not) today, so I should have that info soon.
CLA: After rushing for over 1200 yards and passing for more than 1500 yards last year, what are you goals for the upcoming season?
Brett Hundley: My goals for this season are 2,500 yards passing and 1,000-1,500 rushing.
CLA: What is your timeline for making a decision to commit?
Brett Hundley: I don't know, just when ever I feel it's right.
CLA: Is there any advice you would give to other student-athletes undergoing the recruiting process?
Brett Hundley: Stay focused and don't let recruiting become a distraction. Know that you are in control but be respectful and humble. Just keep working hard and getting better because there is always someone who is working for the same reason that you are, and know that competition can only help bring out the best in you.
CLA: If you were a scout watching Brett Hundley play, what would you say are his strengths as a player and what would he have to improve upon in his senior year?
Brett Hundley: If I were a scout, I'd say he has a lot of upside. Leadership, athleticism, rocket arm, and very accurate. He needs to improve on footwork.
